summer assignments

Men’s Men
The Woods and Water ad eases the mind with its peaceful wilderness and pure freedom, which allows a man to possess the manly state of mind. The advertiser is guaranteeing their products will make those outdoor experiences more enjoyable with the people who are important to you. The catch phrase “making memories that last a lifetime” gives you the idea that the memories will be so strong you won’t need something to capture the moment. The visual for this commercial consists of gorgeous scenery and a couple of men doing what they love best, while giving the men a sense of masculinity of bringing home the food for his family and teaching the young ones to do the same. The advertiser will benefit from Wood and Water with men who hold this hobby.

Men’s Women
The Axe Deodorant ad reels in women from unknown places to its divine smell pandering the thought of the product bringing such fantasy. The advertiser is trying to point out the marvelous scent that Axe gives off, how long it lasts, and how you can smell it from a distance. The catch phrase “spray more get more the axe effect” is used to encourage the audience that there is some effect in purchasing Axe and the more the product lingers, the greater the chance of the result. The visuals start off out in the middle of nowhere with women on the prowl while desperate to reach the source of the scent. The advertiser will profit from the company of this specific brand of deodorant with men whose ambition is to be desired, feel masculine, and wants to gain respect from others.
Women’s Women
The Jenny Craig ad shows a happy and healthy woman who is comfortable in her skin and is encouraging others to make the decision she did that made her confident with whom she is now. The advertiser is trying to show how placing this healthy diet in your life can help you lose weight in just months. The phrase “eat, walk, lose weight” reflects back to how hard it was for women to get rid of baby fat or unnecessary weight before the product. The visual composition consists of bright colors to emit the satisfaction with oneself and to give the audience a positive vibe. The advertiser will benefit from the company of this particular way to lose weight with women who crave to be vigorous, confident, and healthy.
Women’s Men

The Venus embrace reveals the intensity of the close shave by several women being closely accompanied by their man. The advertiser is trying to point out the softness of the skin by the man touching the woman’s skin and noticing the incredible feel, so the man continues to caress her. The slogan “reveal the goddess in you” reflects back to the perfection of Goddesses and in order to get part of that power back is to use this product. The different segments of a woman and her man that are continuously touching each other gives off a seductive vibe. This can relate back to the Goddesses being irresistible. The advertiser will benefit from the company of this specific type of razor with women who want attention from her lover.

Bucket List

AP Lang Bucket List
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
After discovering “Water for Elephants,” I watched it obsessively this whole summer. By reading Water for Elephants, I was hoping to understand a little bit more of why Jacob made the choice to give his veterinarian career up after his parents died, knowing they left nothing for him because it went all to his future. I am curious to see if the books adventure and romance will draw me in the same and let me be apart of Jacob’s experiences.

Snow Falling on Cedars by David Guterson
History isn’t normally appealing to me, but Snow falling on Cedars is rich of romance for a Japanese girl and a white boy after World War II. Memories are thick and stagnant on San Pierdo Island, so I am eager to see how the girl’s family deals with her marrying the boy accused of murder especially one of their own race.

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
I have always been drawn to the fantsy side of the book world, so I wasn’t surprised that this book intrigued me. Lena is being haunted by a curse that has taken hold of previous generations. Ethan has had repeatitive dreams of an unseen girl, when she moves to his town he is determined to find out the secrets of the hidden connection. I love not only a romantic book, but a determined man in that romance. Beautiful Creatures received good reviews, and I plan to read it to enjoy my favorite genre.

Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake
I have had the attention span of a guppy my entire life, and it’s hard for me to stay focused. I have always craved paranormal phenominan whether it be movies, tv shows, or even books. I am curious to read Anna Dressed in Blood to find out the reason behind Anna sparing Cas’s life when he traveled to the deserted Victorian to kill her.

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Several different people have suggested me to read The Hunger Games. When the movie came out I kept telling myself that I was going to see it, but that never managed to happen. During the summer I finally came around to it and ended up loving it. I want to read the book because numerous people said it is more intense, and you actually feel connected to the character. I want to be able to visualize the adventure and scare Katniss is taken through.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
As I said before, I am more of fiction reader. I enjoy reading about supernatural creature and embedding myself in mythical stories. I like reading about impossibilities, they tend to hold my attention more. A friend of mine recommended this book to me. In City of Bones, Clary Fray witnesses a murder of nothing, just like that; the body vanished into thin air. I indeed to learn about her encounters with the face of an angel, and the meeting with a demon.

Bitter End by Jennifer Brown
I am a sucker for any romantic book, especially one that I can relate to in some ways. I am excited to experience the ups and downs of Alex’s relationship with Cole in Bitter End. Will she choose to persevere through her boyfriend’s flaws or go back and try to rediscover who she once was?

The Beginning of After by Jennifer Castle
In The Beginning of After, Laurel is struck breathless when her parents are killed in car accident by her bad-boy neighbor’s father. They have an unwanted connection due to their loss of loved ones. I intend to find out how they end up working out as a couple or as best friends. I think a hopeless romantic one of the best books you can find.

City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau
I attempted to read City of Ember when I was in 7th grade, but it never could seem to catch and hold my attention. Ever since then, friends have recommended this book to me. Now that I am older I think I might be able to dog into this book. I plan to figure out what the message reads and how they decide to go about fixing the lights for their survival.

Pearl by Jo Knowles
In Pearl, Bean and Henry are the opposites but are the best of friends. When Bean’s drunken grandfather passes away, many secrets are exposed risking Bean and Henry’s relationship. I want to figure out those secrets and why they would make such a drastic impact on them. A mysterious romantic book is by far my favorite, due to it being intense and exciting throughout the entire book.

Take Me Away

I was lying on what once was a door of this memerable ship in the Northern Atlantic, just waiting for my numbing fate. I was not a high enough class to be thought of as a person, just someone who boarded the ship. As my body became disobedient for my will to move I began to see the night closing in. I didn't understand how this "unsinkable" ship could be below the surface. I held so many questions that would always be unanswered. Why weren't there more boats? Why didn't anyone come to help us?  Will I survive my worst fear? The biggest question that came to mind was...could I forgive? My Christian beliefs whisper for me to forgive the innocent and ones to blame.  I have nothing against any of the people who will be held responsible in the future. So in my last moments, I learned this is my fate, this is where i'm supossed to be. This is God's plan and I can't be mad at him for his decision. As I closed my eyes, my fate on Earth was sealed .

The Way of the Subconscious

"This dying man looked on me as a representative, as a symbol of other Jews whom he could no longer reach or talk to. And moreover he showed his repentance entirely of his own accord. Obviously he was not born a murderer nor did he want to be a murderer. It was the Nazis who made him kill defenseless people."
When Simon sat and listened to the soldiers experiences and plea for forgiveness, he was emotionless and didn't feel any misery for him. Later on that day, Simon got into an arguement with Josek about the dying soldier. He tried to explain to Josek what he himself could not understand and accept; the dying man knew what he had done to all the men, women, and children was wrong. Since the people he has hurt were obviously no longer alive, he wanted to share and repent to a Jew currently stuck in the living hell. Simon then goes on about how he was once innocent and pure, and he had grown up under the influence of Christianity until he joined the military. He then was swept up by Hitler's lies, which invaded and numbed his conscious, and words that were twisted to appear the proper solution. Simon not only defended the soldier, but he unknowingly forgave the S.S. soldier while backing up his explaination during the conflict.

The Act of Forgiving

Forgiveness is the act of pardoning someone for something stupid they have done. A huge issue with every person on earth when coming in contact with forgiveness is the person thinks its okay to do something bad, then come back later and thinking "im sorry" will dig them out of it. One fault of mine is I don't think everyone should be forgiven. An example is a con artist swindling elderly people out of their life savings. The con artist was sane, he knew what he was doing at the moment to the old people and their future. He did this to better himself in life. I know Christ and the Bible tells us to forgive everyone. I know should do this, but it's so much easier said or to give advice on than to do.

Realization

To give, to get,
To express or hide,
Regretting, holding pride,
It's a choice,

To help, to take away,
To offer or ignore,
Push aside, reassure,
It's character,

To be sleeping with no emotion,
Or a new butterfly fresh from the cocoon,

A reflection of who you are.

Two Faced
When you are nondescript to everyone, including your own husband you become lonely. People tend to push limits to satisfy the attention they crave. Curley’s wife attends “Of Mice and Men” as a character drenched with a reputation as a pretentious whore. In reality, her life’s ambition is to be treated like she matters to someone.
In the beginning, Curley’s wife appears to be self absorbed, coming off as stuck up. When she ended up not receiving the letter from this guy who told her she would be a GREAT actress, she settled with Curley soon after hoping for attention this way. Steinbeck is expressing her importance by emphasizing her demand for respect from everyone on the farm. This is clearly shown when she belittles Crooks because he must not realize what she “can do to him.”
Curley’s wife was quickly obsessed with the idea of continued adoration. She didn’t care if a bad reputation was included on this deal, she wanted to be noticed. Just like when Lennie first saw her, he was “fascinated”, and she loved it. Curley’s wife was accused of giving some of the workers “the eye.”  Even if she did, it was because it made her feel good about herself. She came looking for Curley in the barn when she entered “she put her hands behind her back and leaned against the door frame so her body was thrown forward.” This is her way of crying out to someone. If she can’t get attention by being herself, that only leaves one option.
Last, Curley’s lady isn’t whoever one made her out to be. Lennie was the only person on the farm who looked at her, so she took advantage. The few encounters she has had with Lennie, he listened without judgement. She told him the story about becoming and actress “to see if she was impressing him.” Even though he didn’t make conversation, he didn’t ignore her completely which temporarily satisfied her thirst.
In the deep dark abyss of her heart she just longed to be loved just like her childhood fantasies. She wants to exist to someone. Obviously she never had the feeling of someone caring about her opinions or her thoughts, so she went about fulfilling that by flirting.
